On the first day of competition of the tournament (June 19), local time, the Vietnamese swordplay team had Nguyen Xuan Loi participating in the men's individual swordplay event.
After the preliminary group stage, Xuan Loi participated in the knockout round.
The Vietnamese swordsman reached the round of 16 but lost to Nabiyev Zhanat (Kazakhstan). In the end, Nguyen Xuan Loi ranked 14th in the event.
At this year's tournament, the Vietnamese fencing team registered athletes to compete including Nguyen Xuan Loi, Nguyen Phuoc Den, Nguyen Tien Nhat, Phoong Thanh Cam, Pham Hung Duong, Tran Thi Thuy Trinh, Nguyen Thanh Van, Nguyen Thu Thao.
In the following days of the tournament, Vietnamese fencing athletes will compete in individual men's and women's heptathlon and team heptathlon.
The 2026 Asian Championship attracts more than 400 athletes from the continent to participate. The coaching staff of the Vietnamese fencing team said that many fencers preparing for ASIAD 20 are participating here.
It is expected that the Vietnamese fencing team will participate in ASIAD 20, so the competition program of the 2026 Asian Championship is an opportunity to check their performance.
The last time the Vietnamese swordplay team won a medal at the Asian tournament was in 2019. At that time, swordsman Nguyen Tien Nhat won a bronze medal in the men's individual swordplay event.
Currently, Tien Nhat is still in the Vietnamese fencing team squad participating in the 2026 Asian Championship.
This year, the tournament will compete in all events until the end of June 24.
