modest SEA Games 33 targets
Head coach of the Vietnam jujitsu Team - Mr. Bui Dinh Tien affirmed that the coaching staff reported the plan to aim for a Gold Medal at the 33rd SEA Games. "We are cautious in terms of expertise, predicting that based on the force and competition events, the coaching staff will strive to win a Gold Medal at the 33rd SEA Games", coach Bui Dinh Tien shared.
Explaining why the Vietnam jujitsu Team sets a modest target of striving to win 1 Gold Medal, in charge of the jujitsu sport (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports) - Mr. Tran Van Thach expressed the professional factors that determine achievements and the coaching staff grasped the strength correlation between Vietnamese fighters and fighters from Southeast Asian countries to develop a preparation plan.
The jujitsu sport started as an official competition program from the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines. Our sports have formed the Vietnam National jujitsu Team since the above stage. Statistics from the Vietnam jujitsu Federation show that Vietnamese jujitsu fighters won consecutive medals at the 30th SEA Games (2 Silver Medals, 6 Bronze Medals), 31st SEA Games (2 Gold Medals, 1 Silver Medal, 2 Bronze Medals), 32nd SEA Games (1 Gold Medal, 2 Silver Medals, 9 Bronze Medals). However, the Vietnam jujitsu Team has never surpassed the 2 Gold Medals at the SEA Games.
The Thai host organizing committee of the 33rd SEA Games decided to organize 18 events competing in jujitsu. Of which, the medal set for the Newaza competition is 7, the medal set for the Fighting competition is 4, the medal set for the Duo (performance) is 7.
"The strength of Vietnamese fighters belongs to some Newaza content groups, but in the upcoming Thailand, our main weight class has great competition from fighters from the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore... so we have to prepare carefully" - coach Bui Dinh Tien added.
Expectations for player Dao Hong Son
The Vietnamese jujitsu team will leave for the 2025 Southeast Asian Championship (held in the Philippines) on July 10. The coaching staff sent 28 key players to participate. In which, the number 1 boxer of jujitsu Vietnam, Dao Hong Son, will participate in the 2025 Asian Championship.
At this time, Dao Hong Son is the only fighter of the Vietnam jujitsu Team to win a Gold Medal twice at the 31st and 32nd SEA Games in the men's 56kg weight category of the Newaza competition. With the 33rd SEA Games, coach Bui Dinh Tien and the coaching staff continue to prepare professionally for Dao Hong Son to be in the best condition to participate.
The difficulty for the Vietnam jujitsu Team is that the men's 56kg weight class was not included in the competition by the host of the 33rd SEA Games. Instead, the lightest weight class for men will be 62kg. The coaching staff plans to invite Dao Hong Son to participate in the above event.
Before the 2025 Southeast Asian Championship, the Vietnam jujitsu Team participated in the 2025 Asian Championship. Athlete Dao Hong Son won the Gold Medal in the men's 56kg weight class of the above tournament. "I am preparing professionally with the best efforts to perform national missions. The coaching staff trains with the highest expertise so that each fighter can achieve a decrease in performance when competing officially," said fighter Dao Hong Son. Throughout the professional preparation process for the 2025 Southeast Asian Championship, Dao Hong Son affirmed that the highest requirement is to stay in a comfortable state and avoid injuries.
