The coaching staff of the Vietnam Weightlifting Team has registered 5 athletes to compete in this year's tournament, including Tran Minh Tri, Lai Gia Thanh, Nguyen Hoai Huong, Quang Thi Tam, Nguyen Thi Thu Trang.
Among these, weightlifters Tran Minh Tri, Lai Gia Thanh and Quang Thi Tam are expected to create surprises. The tournament will take place from May 10 to May 16. The Vietnamese weightlifting team arrived in India on May 9.
The 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships is considered an important professional competition. In addition to the Vietnamese team, many top weightlifting teams of the continent such as China, South Korea, Japan, and North Korea are expected to register the best athletes to achieve results as well as prepare for ASIAD 20.
The coaching staff of the Vietnam Weightlifting Team said that the 2026 Asian Championship will compete in the 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 77kg, 86kg and over 86kg events for women. Men's events include 60kg, 65kg, 71kg, 79kg, 88kg, 94kg, 100kg and over 110kg.
At this tournament last year, and the overall result, the Vietnam Weightlifting Team won 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal. Our gold medal was won by weightlifter Tran Minh Tri. Also at last year's tournament, weightlifter Lai Gia Thanh won a silver medal in the overall event.
However, at the 2026 Asian Championships, Tran Minh Tri and Lai Gia Thanh will change the new competition content to ensure compliance with the regulations of the Organizing Committee.
