The focus of round 29 of the Premier League is the direct confrontations between the teams in the top half of the rankings.
Defending champions Manchester City won an impressive 4-1 victory over Liverpool at the Etihad. However, the gap between them and leaders Arsenal is still 8 points, as the "Gunners" also won 3 points against Leeds.
The defeat at the Etihad caused Liverpool to drop to 8th place with 42 points and are further away from the Champions League group.
Meanwhile, Manchester United dropped out of the Top 4 after a 0-2 defeat at Newcastle, while Tottenham won 1 point against Everton in the late match.
Currently, Newcastle is temporarily ranked 3rd with 50 points, Tottenham and Man United are behind due to poorer goal difference. Spurs are at a disadvantage, having played 2 more matches than M.U and Newcastle.
Chelsea continued their poor form when they lost to Aston Villa and fell to the bottom half of the rankings. This defeat was also the end for coach Graham Potter, when Chelsea's board decided to fire him.
The relegation battle is also taking place attractively and unpredictably. West Ham won a narrow victory in the "reverse final" against Southampton, thereby temporarily escaping the "red light" group to rank 14th.
Coach David Moyes and his team have also played 2 fewer matches than the teams above them, Crystal Palace and Wolves.
As for Southampton, the defeat to West Ham caused them to sink deep into the bottom of the rankings with 23 points after 29 matches. They are 3 points behind the safe zone but have played more than most of their competitors.
Leeds and Leicester also fell to the bottom of the table when they lost to Arsenal and Crystal Palace respectively.
The gap from 12th to 20th place is only 7 points and promises to create a fierce competition to stay in the top flight of England.
