Vietnamese women's volleyball begins ASIAD 20 plan

HOÀI VIỆT |

The Vietnamese women's volleyball team has closed 2025 with valuable achievements, but at this time the preparation plan for ASIAD 20 2026 is gradually starting to take shape.

Successful Year 2025

The end of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team at SEA Games 33 is also the time to close the 2025 training and competition program.

Looking back at this year's professional journey, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team left many positive imprints. In which, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team continued to win the runner-up position at SEA Games 33, won the AVC Nations Cup 2025, runner-up position at VTV Cup 2025, won the first leg of the SEA V.League 2025 and participated in the 2025 World Championship.

After the SEA Games 33 final in Thailand, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet once expressed that he and the team regretted not being able to win and win the Gold Medal due to losing the final decisive point. However, Mr. Kiet still praised the players. The head coach believes that his students are playing more confidently and effectively in many international tournaments, so their professional level has improved significantly over the years.

For 3 consecutive years (2023, 2024, 2025), the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team has achieved valuable results at many international competition levels. But clearly, we want to affirm a higher position in the Asian arena. The results achieved in 2025 are identified as a premise for the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team to create the best momentum to prepare to enter 2026 with many key goals to follow.

ASIAD 20 will not be easy

According to the expected plan, it is likely that Vietnamese sports will continue to register the Vietnamese women's volleyball team to participate in ASIAD 20 in 2026 in Japan. We have achieved historic results in reaching the semi-finals of ASIAD 19 in 2023 in China (then ranked 4th). At the above Games, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team lost to Thailand in the third-place match. Also in 2023, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team ranked 4th at the Asian Championship.

This year, the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team will definitely participate in the 2025 Asian Championship. The tournament is held every 2 years and this is a professional measure to help each team check their level before competing in ASIAD 20.

Representatives of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation said that the program of the 2026 Asian Championship will take place in August 2026 in China. Therefore, the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team has enough time to adjust its forces and expertise from this tournament to be ready for ASIAD 20.

The 4th place ranking at ASIAD 19 held in 2023 of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team was considered surprising at that time. At that time, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team played with a comfortable mental state, without pressure from achievements.

At the same time, opponents did not anticipate the possibility that Vietnamese players could create breakthroughs. Therefore, we created surprises. Now, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is no longer an unknown. In particular, we showed good form at the 2025 World Cup. Therefore, teams will be wary of Vietnamese players in the ASIAD 20 arena.

In Thailand, head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet has not specifically revealed the ASIAD 20 preparation plan because he still has enough time to build a professional roadmap for his students. What is focused on is the stability of the training program for the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team. The coaching staff still wants a training location that ensures good facilities, suitable for professional requirements.

In 2025, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will practice at different locations from stage one to stage two. Before going to Thailand to compete in SEA Games 33, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team practiced in Vinh Long. The coaching staff and players once expected to train in Japan before competing in SEA Games 33 but could not. Preparing for ASIAD 20, it is likely that the training program in Japan will be calculated because the congress will be held here.
