Changes in accordance with reality
7 years, the country's sports industry has begun to implement the regime and policies according to Decree No. 152/2018/ND-CP stipulating a number of regimes for sports coaches and athletes during the time of training and competition.
According to regulations, the head coach of the National Sports Team receives a salary (according to the actual practice day) of VND 505,000/person/day; the coach of the National Sports Team receives a salary of VND 375,000/person/day while the national sports team player receives a salary of VND 270,000/person/day... Regarding the achievement prize level, 1 Olympic Gold Medal will be VND 350 million, 1 Olympic Silver Medal will be VND 220 million, 1 Olympic Bronze Medal is VND 140 million while the awards for each Gold, Silver, and Bronze ASIAD Medals are VND 140 million, 85 million VND and 55 million VND respectively. The prizes for each Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medal at the SEA Games are 45 million VND, 25 million VND, and 20 million VND, respectively.
However, over time, the regime needs to change to ensure the lives of coaches and athletes as well as balance before price spikes.
Preliminarily, at the rate of 270,000 VND/day, 1 national player receives a salary of 7 million 20 thousand VND/month (according to the number of practice days). The salary is not high compared to the social income level. Responding to National Assembly deputies at the August 2024 question-and-answer session, Central Party Committee member, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung, who is also Chairman of the Vietnam Olympic Committee, acknowledged that the regime for athletes is low, so he will find solutions to increase benefits for athletes, especially salaries, bonuses and nutrition.
Bonuses will increase significantly
"We have consulted with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to draft a Decree to replace Decree No. 152/2018/ND-CP dated November 7, 2018 of the Government stipulating a number of regimes for sports coaches and athletes during the time of training and competition. The regime for coaches and athletes will increase.
In particular, there are some policies for Physical Education and Sports activities such as having doctors, nutritionists, and fitness experts for national sports teams. This does not currently have a policy regime, said Mr. Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet at the Conference to review the work in the first 6 months of the year, a key task for the last 6 months of 2025 organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on July 17.
The Director of the Department of Physical Education and Sports of Vietnam added: Currently, a number of universities are conducting training programs in sports medicine. After the replacement Decree is approved and issued, the sports industry will work with the Ministry of Home Affairs to determine the official code for the above job position for recruitment".
Last June, after the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued a Decision to issue a Plan to develop a Decree stipulating a number of regimes for coaches and athletes during the time of training and competition (replacing Decree No. 152/2018/ND-CP), the Department of Physical Education and Sports has begun reviewing and analyzing the contents to advise on new policies.
The new regime is being developed and proposed in many areas. In addition, the regulation on awarding medals for achievements of draft Congresses will be significantly increased to help coaches and athletes feel secure in dedicating their expertise. According to research, the prize for Olympic medal achievements has been considered and proposed to be a new level many times higher than the current regulations.
