On the afternoon of July 7, the homepage of Gunma Green Wings club (Japan) officially announced that the main striker Tran Thi Thanh Thuy will be in the squad of this team competing in the 2025-2026 Japanese National Volleyball Championship.
The captain of the Vietnam women's volleyball team is the first name introduced in the list. She will wear the number 16 shirt at her new team.
Thanh Thuy will have her 7th trip abroad in her playing career, and it will also be the 3rd time the 1997-born hitter has competed in Japan. Previously, Thanh Thuy played for two teams, Denso Airybees and FPU BlueCats.
Thanh Thuy said: "I am very happy to have the opportunity to compete in the Japanese National Volleyball Championship in the new season with Gunma club! I will try my best for the team and hope everyone will support us as well as enjoy volleyball together. Thank you! ".
Thanh Thuy's move abroad means VTV Binh Dien Long An will not have her service in the second phase of the 2025 national championship.
Gunma Green Wings was promoted last year. They were at the bottom of the V.League last season due to not having a good force. Aiming to achieve a higher ranking in the new season, this team has increased its strength, especially adding foreign players, including Thanh Thuy, to improve the quality of the attack.
Besides Thanh Thuy, Gunma Green Wings also added two other foreign soldiers including the Dimitrova (Bulgaria) and the owner Rozanski (Poland).
According to V.League regulations, each team is only allowed to have a maximum of 3 foreign players on the field at the same time (1 Asia, 2 outside Asia). Therefore, the opportunity for Thanh Thuy to have an official playing spot at Gunma Green Wings is very large.
After a period of injury, Thanh Thuy has proven her impressive comeback since the beginning of 2025. She recently participated in the VTV Cup 2025 with the Vietnam women's volleyball team, playing a leading role in the team's journey to the runner-up position.
