On July 3rd, at the Bac Giang ward Gymnasium (Bac Ninh), the 2026 National Youth Chess Championship opened.
This year, a large number of young chess players nationwide participated to compete in the groups for the age group U6, U7, U8, U9, U10, U11, U13, U15, U17 and U20.
At the tournament, many young players with names in the Vietnamese chess scene were registered to compete such as Pham Tran Gia Phuc, Nguyen Quoc Hy, Le Phan Hoang Quan, Dinh Nho Kiet, Nguyen Hong Nhung, Nguyen Nam Kiet, Nguyen Le Cam Hien, Bui Ngoc Linh Chi...
The tournament competes in standard chess, traditional rapid chess, and blitz chess.
According to regulations for standard and traditional chess, each player will have 60 minutes of competition + 30 seconds/water (calculated from the first move).
For rapid chess, each player has 15 minutes of competition + 10 seconds/water (calculated from the first move), while lightning chess stipulates that each side has 3 minutes + 2 seconds/water (calculated from the first move).
Rapid chess and blitz chess will take place first. Next, chess players enter the competition for standard chess and traditional chess. The rapid chess event is played in 9 rounds according to the Swiss system.
According to forecasts from experts, the chess players of the Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City youth chess teams have the opportunity to lead because they possess many high-level faces.
The 2026 National Youth Championship will close on July 12.
