According to Lao Dong's investigation, leaders of the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports and the High-Performance Sports Department (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports) have requested the Vietnam Chess Federation to provide a detailed professional report on the selection of chess players to participate in the 2026 Olympiad.
It is expected that this week, the Vietnam Sports Administration will work with the Vietnam Chess Federation.
Currently, the Vietnam Chess Federation said it has proposed a preliminary list to participate in the 2026 Olympiad with chess players Banh Gia Huy, Dau Khuong Duy, Dang Hoang Son, Pham Tran Gia Phuc, Duong Vu Anh (men) and Vo Thi Kim Phung, Bach Ngoc Thuy Duong, Nguyen Thi Mai Hung, Nguyen Hong Anh, Nguyen Binh Vy (women).
The Vietnam Sports Administration affirmed that the list being proposed by the Vietnam Chess Federation is the first step, but there is no official report or proposal on the list of the Vietnamese chess team participating in the 2026 Olympiad.
Currently, 2 cases of chess players Luong Phuong Hanh and Pham Le Thao Nguyen are also being specifically considered for proposals.
The 2026 International Team Chess Olympiad only allows each team to register a maximum of 5 male chess players and 5 female chess players. The tournament takes place from September 15 to 28 in Uzbekistan.
According to regulations on the establishment of national teams of the Vietnam Sports Administration, proposals must comply with the order according to regulations with the following steps:
1. Based on the annual work plan approved by competent authorities; 2. The process of selecting members to participate in the national sports team must ensure accuracy, objectivity, publicity, transparency, and efficiency;
3. Civil servants and public employees who are assigned to participate in the national sports team going on business trips abroad must not be affected by the progress and quality of work being assigned in the country;
4. Comply with the order and procedures in this regulation, the working regulations of the Vietnam Sports Administration and other relevant legal documents... ;
5. Not sending members to participate in the national sports team while they are under disciplinary action, being prosecuted, investigated, prosecuted, or tried...;
6. Leaders of the Vietnam Sports Administration consider and decide on the establishment of a national sports team not included in the annual work plan.
