Clear goals
The list of 17 key sports that the Vietnamese sports industry is focusing on investing in to develop expertise towards competing for the highest results in the upcoming cycles includes: Swimming, athletics, shooting, gymnastics, weightlifting, fencing, boxing, taekwondo, cycling, badminton, archery, judo, wrestling, rowing (Olympic group) and wushu, sepak takraw, karate (ASIAD group).
At the Conference on orientation for high-performance sports development towards 2030 (December 2023), Vietnamese sports managers recorded opinions from experts, managers and activists of the Federation and Sports Association to see the reality that our sports should not invest widely but must have a focus.
Mr. Dang Ha Viet - Director of the Department of Physical Training and Sports affirmed in many discussions at conferences on sports work with the viewpoint that Vietnamese sports have been investing in the best development tasks towards achieving achievements in high-performance sports competitions.
Coach Nguyen Manh Hieu of the Vietnam Athletics Team at the training site at the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi said: "As soon as we return after the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, athletes of all events will practice normally and with the highest concentration."
The Vietnamese wrestling team has returned to training since February 2 and the coaching staff and players (male and female) have returned to the training ground as usual without worrying about the holiday.
Find the right person
At the 19th ASIAD, the shooting, sepak takraw and karate teams were the teams that won the Gold Medal for Vietnamese sports. This year, Vietnamese sports have the task of participating in the 33rd SEA Games. However, each national sports team in the above competitions takes 2025 as the key period to prepare the most secure force towards participating in the 20th ASIAD in 2026.
Mr. Hoang Quoc Vinh - Head of High Performance Sports Department 1 (Department of Physical Training and Sports) discussed at the conference to summarize the work of 2024 and deploy the work of 2025 of the sports industry that the manager selected 17 key sports to have the main investment in the calculation and analysis to predict the possibility of professional disputes.
We have athletes from archery, shooting, cycling, taekwondo, badminton, judo, rowing, weightlifting, swimming, athletics... participating in the 2024 Paris (France) Olympics.
Statistics show that Vietnamese sports won medals when participating in ASIAD 19 in sports including shooting, gymnastics, boxing, jujitsu, karate, kurash, sepak takraw, chess, rowing, wushu, taekwondo, and swimming.
Many events in this group of sports are part of the Olympic program, so Vietnamese sports aim to reach new heights and raise their status. This requires thorough investment in human resource selection, training and development.
Returning after the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, all shooters in the content groups of the Vietnam shooting team started training on February 3. Shooter Trinh Thu Vinh said that she is keeping the most stable mentality and above all focusing on professional training to compete for the best results.
Shooter Pham Quang Huy expressed his high goal of securing a Gold Medal at the 20th ASIAD, but above all, maintaining his achievements and accumulating them through each tournament in 2025.
All national sports teams have returned to training, and the technical team will monitor the preparation and performance of each coach and athlete over the next 12 months. From there, managers will select suitable factors, focusing on important long-term tasks.
