The Vietnamese athletics team has been awarded an official spot to participate in the 2026 Youth Olympics and will compete in Dakar (Senegal).
Representatives of the coaching staff of the Vietnamese athletics team said that the official slot awarded to Vietnamese athletics to compete in the 2026 Youth Olympics will be in the women's 400m event. However, the World Athletics Federation (WA) did not specify the names of athletes to receive the official slot but only awarded the slot to Vietnamese athletics.
The coaching staff of the Vietnamese athletics team will screen professionally the female 400m athletes who are training in the Vietnamese youth athletics team and find a suitable face to receive this ticket to compete.
In 2024, Vietnamese athletics had young athlete Le Thi Tuyet Mai awarded a spot to participate in the U20 World Youth Championship. This face is an athlete with good expertise in the women's 400m event.
The athletics event of the 2026 Youth Olympics will compete in 36 events including 18 events for men and 18 events for women.
In the most recent competition, the 2018 Youth Olympics in Argentina, the Vietnamese athletics team had 2 faces awarded participation slots: Le Tien Long (2,000m hurdles) and Doan Thu Hang (1,500m).
The competition program of the 2026 Youth Olympics will take place from October 31st to November 13th in Dakar (Senegal). Previously, the Vietnamese athletics team also sought the opportunity to achieve an official spot from the results of the 2025 Asian Youth Games but was unsuccessful.
