On Tuesday, in the French Cup final, the Brazilian defender left the field after a collision. Last night (May 11), doctors concluded that Alves had a knee injury and only by miracle could he recover in time to play at the 2018 World Cup.
On Wednesday, Alves was diagnosed with an injury and PSG doctors said he could return in time for the World Cup to start. However, just 2 days later, doctors from the Brazilian national team confirmed that the 3-year-old defender could not recover in time to join the Selecao squad to Russia this summer.
"Alves' right knee injury is quite serious. He was chipped and had part of his ligament broken.
This type of injury requires time to recover and requires surgery. We confirm that Alves cannot recover in time for the 2018 World Cup," Selecao's doctor concluded.
This is a good news for the Samba national team because in the past decade, the right wing of Selecao has always chosen Alves as the number 1 priority, after the time of Cafu and Maicon. Along with Alves, the Brazilian national team also does not have the service of defender Filipe Luis (Atletico Madrid). Luis broke his leg in March while playing.
Coach Tite is facing a difficult problem when the key players in his hands cannot participate or have physical problems. Previously, the brightest star Neymar had a broken toe and was hoping to recover quickly to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
