FAM appoints Chairman of the independent Committee to investigate the naturalization of players

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has appointed former Chief Justice of the Malaysia Supreme Court Tun Md Raus as Chairman of the independent Commission to investigate the player naturalization case.

According to FAM, inviting a character with a solid legal foundation such as Mr. Tun Md Raus is to ensure transparency and objectivity throughout the entire investigation process.

This Committee will operate independently, without the participation of any FAM officials to avoid conflicts of interest.

Mr. Tun Md Raus has been Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Malaysia since 2017, has many years of experience in the judiciary and is highly appreciated for his professional capacity. FAM hopes that he and the members chosen by himself will conduct a thorough investigation and report the results as soon as possible.

Previously, FAM said the incident originated from an administrative error when an employee downloaded the player's representative documents incorrectly instead of the official copy issued by the Department of National Registration.

However, FIFA did not accept this explanation and issued a severe penalty. FAM was fined 350,000 Swiss French, while 7 players facundo Garces, Imanol Machuca, Hector Hevel, Gabriel Palmero, Rodrigo Holgado, Joao figureiredo and Jon Irazabal were banned from playing for 12 months, each of whom had to pay 2,000 Swiss French French fees.

FAM has filed an appeal with FIFA, with a final decision expected on 30 October 2025. While waiting for the results, FAM Noor General Secretary Azman Rahman, who is directly in charge of player registration, has been suspended from work to serve the investigation.
