On July 26, Son Tra Ward People's Committee, Da Nang City organized the SUP Son Tra - Da Nang Cheo Tournament 2026 with the theme "Son Tra - Blue Sea Cheo Beat". This is an activity within the series of events "Enjoy Da Nang 2026 - Enjoy Da Nang Festival 2026", aiming to develop sea sports products associated with local tourism.
The tournament gathers nearly 100 athletes from many provinces and cities across the country, competing in 5 events including: Sprint Race 200m men, Sprint Race 200m women, Open Race 2,000m men, Open Race 2,000m women (for experienced athletes) and team experience event 500m for people and tourists.
The contents are designed to both create a competitive playground for people who love SUP cheo, and encourage the community to participate in experiencing, contributing to spreading the water sports movement.
In particular, the SUP Son Tra - Da Nang Cheo Tournament 2026 is organized in association with the orientation of implementing the "Son Tra 102" Project - a project of great significance for Son Tra ward to research, collect and spread typical values of Son Tra history, culture, nature and people.
Through the event, the Organizing Committee hopes that each athlete, each citizen and tourist will become "media ambassadors", contributing to introducing the image of dynamic, friendly, and rich in identity Son Tra.
The Son Tra - Da Nang SUP Cheo Tournament 2026 is not only a sports activity but also a unique experiential tourism product of the locality, contributing to the goal of developing marine economy, green tourism and gradually building the Son Tra brand to become an attractive destination of Da Nang city.
Speaking at the opening of the race, Mr. Nguyen Huy Binh, Vice Chairman of Son Tra Ward People's Committee, Da Nang City, said that this event aims to create a healthy sports playground, promote the movement of health training, and develop water sports. Contributing to promoting the image of Son Tra - a land intersecting mountains - forests - rivers and seas; between nature - culture and people.
The event aims to promote tourism and service development, gradually building Son Tra into an attractive tourist destination of Da Nang city. Through this event, each athlete, each citizen and tourist will contribute to promoting the image of Son Tra ward being dynamic, friendly and rich in identity," Mr. Binh expressed.
According to the Organizing Committee, this is the first time Son Tra ward has organized a local-level SUP cheo tournament. The event not only creates a playground for water sports lovers but also contributes to connecting the community, promoting the image of Son Tra beach and Da Nang city to domestic and international tourists.
