Ho Chi Minh City Marathon 2025 Spring Opening Expected to Welcome 11,000 Athletes

NGUYỄN ĐĂNG |

The 12th Ho Chi Minh City Marathon is scheduled to take place on January 12, 2025, and is expected to welcome 11,000 athletes.

Held since 1992 and continuing until now after a few years of interruption, the HCMC Marathon has become one of the city's main events, taking place annually, to encourage people to regularly exercise and improve their health.

In particular, the 12th season is also the first activity in a series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). Therefore, the 2025 race also brings the message "The People's Victory - Proudly Striding" with the meaning that victory is not only the moment of crossing the finish line but also the proud strides, solidarity towards a common goal, overcoming challenges and celebrating progress together.

The 12th edition of the Marathon is expected to welcome more than 11,000 domestic and international athletes participating in 3 distances: Marathon 42 km, half marathon 21 km and 10 km. The starting and finishing locations are both at the Reunification Palace. Athletes will experience the race in the heart of the bustling city, with the cool climate of early spring.

As one of the most popular types of sports combined with tourism today, the event increasingly attracts many domestic and especially international tourists to attend and experience the city's New Year's Eve activities.

The HCMC Marathon 2025 will not only contribute to promoting the domestic sports movement but also stimulate the development of accompanying tourism services such as accommodation, catering and retail during the event week. The upcoming event is expected to welcome 2,500 international athletes.

The event will take place over 3 days. From January 10 to 11, 2025, the Organizing Committee will have many activities at the Athletes Village (Marathon Expo) located at Hoa Lu Sports Center, District 1. The event is expected to have about 40 booths from sponsors and partners from many sports industries in different sports, welcoming more than 30,000 guests.
