On the evening of August 8, at Tien Son Sports Palace, the Da Nang City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the Vietnam General Martial Arts Federation (VMMAF) organized the 2026 National Youth General Martial Arts (MMA) Championship.
The tournament aims to respond to the Campaign "All people practice physical exercise following the example of the great Uncle Ho", contributing to the development of the general martial arts (MMA) training and competition movement nationwide.
The tournament officially competes from August 8 to August 11 at Tien Son Sports Palace, gathering 195 athletes from 15 delegations, competing in 44 sets of medals for men and women.
This is the first time the National Youth Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Championship has been organized in Vietnam's national high-performance sports competition system, marking an important milestone in the development of MMA, and affirming the maturity of young athlete training and the official competition system for the next generation nationwide.
Athletes compete in modern MMA and traditional MMA events. Depending on the number of athletes in each weight class, the competition content is organized in a knockout or round-robin format.
This year's tournament has the participation of delegations from Lam Dong, Khanh Hoa, Thai Nguyen, An Giang, Da Nang, Dak Lak, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Dong Nai, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Quang Tri, Hai Phong, Hue and the Army.
After 6 years of formation and development, MMA Vietnam has gradually achieved remarkable results in the international arena. At SEA Games 2025 in Thailand, the Vietnamese MMA team won 2 Gold Medals, 1 Silver Medal and 2 Bronze Medals.
In 2026, the team will continue to win 1 Gold Medal and 1 Bronze Medal at the Asian MMA Championship held in China.
The 2026 National Junior MMA Championship is expected to contribute to supplementing the force of young athletes, preparing for international arenas in the near future.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Dao Gia Bao - Standing Vice President of the Vietnam General Martial Arts Federation said that the 2026 National Youth General Martial Arts Championship is of great significance as it is organized for the first time in the national high-performance sports competition system.
The tournament is not only an opportunity for young athletes to compete, exchange, learn and assert themselves, but also a basis for evaluating training, discovering and fostering successor athletes for Vietnamese sports in general and general martial arts in particular," Mr. Bao said.
