The decision takes effect immediately from June 24. The Japanese strategist made this decision for personal reasons. Mr Ogura informed FAS of his decision a few weeks ago, citing the need to return to his hometown to address urgent personal matters.
The FAS Executive Committee has closely consulted Mr. Ogura to learn many different directions to facilitate this strategist to continue leading the Singapore team. However, despite the common efforts and desire to maintain the working relationship, Mr. Ogura could not arrange his personal work to continue working in Singapore.
FAS respect Mr. Ogura's decision and express our sincere gratitude for his professionalism, dedication and contributions to Singaporean football during his tenure.
Mr. Ogura will lead the Singapore team from February 2024. In his first match in charge, he created great excitement when he helped Singapore hold China to a 2-2 draw after falling 2-0 behind. This match took place in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Asia.
In total, Mr. Ogura led the Singapore team in 16 matches, including 5 wins, 3 draws and 8 losses. He made his mark when he helped the home team enter the semi-finals of the ASEAN Cup 2024, but then lost to the Vietnam team with a total score of 1-5.
In the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, he helped the Singapore team win 4 points/2 matches. The team drew 0-0 with Hong Kong (China) and beat Bangladesh 2-1, temporarily leading Group C.
During the interim period, FAS has appointed Mr. Gavin Lee, former head coach of BG Tampines Rovers FC, to temporarily lead the Singapore team to replace Mr. Ogura. In the coming time, FAS will look for a new strategist from a candidate with vision, expertise and leadership qualities to bring Singaporean football to a new level.
According to the schedule, the Singapore team is expected to have an international friendly match in September. By October, the team will play 2 matches against the Indian team in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
