After the final whistle sounded at the Azteca stadium, Henderson and his teammates went to the stands to celebrate with English fans. However, while trying to get past the billboard, the 36-year-old midfielder lost his balance and fell headfirst onto the field.
Henderson lay motionless after the collision, causing the medical team to immediately go to the field for first aid. He was fastened on a stretcher before being transferred straight to the hospital for examination.
According to British media, Henderson is believed to have an arm injury. Some images also recorded the scene of the midfielder currently playing for Brentford having to breathe oxygen when being taken into the tunnel. The English Football Association has not yet announced the test results as well as the severity of the injury.
After the match, captain Harry Kane confirmed the incident occurred while Henderson was celebrating with the whole team. "Henderson just fell on the other side. I think he will be fine," Kane shared.
Slow motion replay later showed Henderson tripping when trying to jump over the billboard and landing in a dangerous position.
The unfortunate incident happened right after England defeated Mexico with a score of 3-2 after more than 11 minutes of tense added time. This victory helped coach Thomas Tuchel's team win a ticket to the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup, where they will face Norway.
