Parents report a lack of transparency in the selection process
Ms. M.T.L, in Do Vinh ward, Khanh Hoa province, has submitted a complaint to the Khanh Hoa province's electronic information portal about the process of selecting the talent of the King's Flag in 2025 of the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center that has not ensured publicity and transparency.
According to Ms. L, in September 2025, the Center will organize a sports talent competition. Among them, there is the King's Flag. Her children participated in this round and achieved good results - winning 4.5/5 matches.
However, more than a month has passed, and parents have not yet received the results. When she contacted, the Center replied that no athlete met the selection criteria.
This parent believes that the above conclusion is not satisfactory, because her child has achieved success at official provincial and regional tournaments organized by the Vietnam Flag Federation.
She also suggested that the Center publicize the assessment criteria, scoring tables, competition minutes and list of candidates to ensure objectivity.
Can't be approved because there is no coach
Recently, on November 5, Mr. Le Hung Tam - Director of Khanh Hoa Sports Training and Training Center - responded to the parents' petition.
Mr. Tam said that during the implementation of the talent selection exam, the only coach in charge of the King Chess subject, Mr. Dinh Hoang Tu, was seriously ill and could not directly participate in the selection work.
Therefore, the council has temporarily organized 9 contestants (6 men, 3 women) to compete in a round-robin to calculate scores as a basis for preliminary assessment, and at the same time made a record to reserve all results.
However, because the department currently does not have a responsible coach, the council agreed not to submit the admission results for approval but temporarily reserved the admission results of the candidates.
When perfecting the coaching team, the Center will review, evaluate and announce the official results.
According to the Center's leaders, after merging the Khanh Hoa Sports Technical Training Center and the Ninh Thuan Sports Training and Competition Center, the new unit is waiting for competent authorities to approve the functions, tasks, and organizational structure.
Regulations on the selection and management of coaches and athletes are also being developed, so there is no basis to sign a new coaching contract for the King Flag team.
Also related to this incident, Khanh Hoa Sports Training and Training Center said that the parents' complaint is "positive interest, demonstrating responsibility for the work of discovering and nurturing young sports talents".
The unit has fully preserved the documents, minutes and exam results of the candidates. When there are conditions for personnel, the Center will publicize and make the official results transparent to parents and candidates.
