On November 29, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Public Security, a press conference was held for the 2024 Asian Police Taekwondo Open Championship. The tournament is part of a series of activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Public Security (CAND) Traditional Day and the 20th anniversary of the National Day for National Security Protection.
Speaking at the ceremony, Colonel Nguyen Thi Thuy Thanh - General Secretary of the People's Public Security Sports Association said: "The 2024 Asian Open Police Taekwondo Championship aims to honor the solidarity of Taekwondo police around the world; consolidate and enhance the position of Police Taekwondo in Vietnam and the World Police Taekwondo Federation in the effort for the health, safety and happiness of people around the world; promote patriotism and national spirit as self-defense martial artists; consolidate the position and image of the Vietnamese Police force and develop high-performance sports in the Vietnam People's Public Security.
The tournament will take place at the Quang Ninh Provincial Multi-purpose Gymnasium from December 6 to December 9. This is not only a top-notch sports playground but also an opportunity to promote the culture, image, country, and people of Vietnam; cultural heritages, historical relics, and tourism products of Vietnam in general and Quang Ninh in particular to international friends."
Currently, according to the organizers, the 2024 Asian Taekwondo Championship has the participation of 2,000 officials, coaches, and athletes from 29 countries and territories in Asia and outside Asia.
This year's tournament has 2 competition categories, including: 2024 Asian Police Taekwondo Open Championship in Vietnam and 2024 Asian Police Taekwondo Festival in Vietnam.
Accordingly, at the Asian Police Taekwondo Open Championship, participants are police officers, officers, and soldiers from Asian countries (open); men and women of all ages and weight categories. The competition content is confrontation, power, destruction, and team competition.
Meanwhile, the participants of the 2024 Asian Police Taekwondo Festival are children, teenagers, young people, and the elderly. The content includes sparring, rights (A/B), breaking, free rights, taekwondo gymnastics, and team competition.
Athletes will compete in 16 weight categories (according to Olympic regulations); 5 forms (traditional and creative); 5 destructive forms; self-defense and attack skills; martial arts performances.
The Public Security delegation participating in the tournament includes 1 Head of Delegation, 7 coaches and 70 athletes. The host delegation Vietnam aims to achieve high results in this year's tournament.
The tournament opening ceremony will take place at 7:00 p.m. on December 6, promising to bring a vibrant and colorful atmosphere, opening the days of exciting competition of athletes from more than 29 countries and territories. The closing ceremony will take place on December 10.
