On April 2nd, the final stage of the Tour of Thailand witnessed Nguyen Thi That's breakthrough effort in the overall ranking competition. Before entering the decisive day of competition, the Vietnamese cyclist ranked 3rd in the overall standings and was only 12 seconds behind the leading position.
On the nearly 82 km route, Nguyen Thi That actively participated in competitions at important points. In the mid-distance sprint calculation, she finished first to accumulate bonus time. In the final kilometers, That continued to promote her acceleration strength, winning the stage and significantly improving her overall achievement.
With the bonus seconds obtained during the competition day, the Vietnamese driver rose to the highest position in the overall standings right after the race ended. However, this result was not maintained after the organizers conducted a review.
The situation occurred at the first sprint point, Nguyen Thi That was identified as a violator in the position dispute process when using her hand to impact her opponent.
Images from television show that the collision occurred right before the acceleration. Therefore, the organizers decided to eliminate the results at this point, and at the same time add the penalty time to the total achievement.
Being adjusted for a total of 13 seconds caused Nguyen Thi That to lose the advantage in the rankings and no longer hold the overall leading position.
Although not winning the yellow jersey, the Vietnamese racer still finished the race with the green jersey for the best sprinter and the purple jersey for the best racer in Southeast Asia.
