Messi extends contract with Inter Miami until 2028

Inter Miami confirmed that they have reached an agreement to extend Lionel Messi's contract until 2028, an additional three years compared to the old contract.

With this contract, the Argentine striker can continue to play professionally until the age of 41.

The information was announced by the American team through a video on social media, recording the scene of Messi signing a new contract at the Miami freedom Park Stadium construction site. This is also expected to become a new symbol of the club when it comes into operation in 2026, with a capacity of 25,000 seats and many modern utilities.

According to US media, Messi continues to be the highest-paid player in MLS with an income of about 20.4 million USD per year. The new contract still has a special clause that allows him to become a co-owner of Inter Miami after retirement, along with Jorge Mas, Jose Mas and David Beckham.

Since joining Inter Miami in July 2023, Messi has helped the team win its first title in history - the 2023 Leagues Cup, and received the title of Best Player of the 2024 season. At the age of 38, he still maintains his impressive form with 29 goals and 19 assists in the 2025 season, thereby winning the MLS Golden Boot.

Messi said he does not have a specific plan for the future: "I live every day, play every match. When I still find joy, I will continue. Otherwise, I'll stop." He also left open the possibility of participating in the 2026 World Cup held in the US, Mexico and Canada.
