On the evening of April 22 (local time), Mohamed Salah stepped onto the podium to receive the noble award from the Professional Players Association (PFA) for the title of "Best Player of the Year". This achievement comes to the Egyptian striker when he has scored 41 goals for Liverpool this season.
Salah, 25 years old this year, is the 7th person in Liverpool's history to receive this award. He is also the first Egyptian player to be named in the history of the Premier League. The Kop's last person to be honored by the PFA was Luis Suarez in 2014. Last year, Chelsea's N'Golo Kante was voted PFA.
Normally, PFA award winners will have the opportunity to win individual doubles titles. Last year, Kante had this honor when in addition to PFA, he was also chosen by FWA (England Sports Journalists Association) as the best player.
"It is a great honor, I always work hard and am very happy to receive this award. Hopefully, I am not the last (of Egypt) to do the same.
It feels proud to be voted by other players (PFA votes are sent by professional players in England). I have always thought that since I left the Premier League, I will definitely come back and shine at some point.
That opportunity did not come to me in the Chelsea shirt. I left, came back with a different mindset, a different player and a different man from before a lot," Salah shared on the podium.
To comment on his student, Coach Klopp used beautiful words to praise Salah. The German strategist and coach is having a memorable season as he has reached the Champions League semi-finals.
"Football is a team sport and you rarely win in just your name.
The team is playing well from the performance of each player. I feel happy to have led them in the past few years.
To receive this award, you must receive votes from other players. Therefore, it is extremely noble. You or even your family have the right to be proud," Klopp shared about Salah's award.
Currently, the Egyptian striker has 41 goals for Livepool this season. The Kop are currently 3rd in the Premier League but have reached the Champions League semi-finals. Anfield's opponent is AS Roma - the team that just eliminated Barca in an unimaginable scenario in the quarter-finals.
