On the evening of August 23, the Vietnam women's volleyball team (ranked 22) had their opening match in the 2025 World Championship against Poland (ranked 3). Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team are rated lower than their opponents in terms of both squad and class.
However, Thanh Thuy and her teammates created a surprise when they played effectively and won set 1 with a score of 25-23. However, with a big difference in expertise, the Polish girls still knew how to regain control of the game to win the next 3 sets and win the final score with a score of 3-1.

Despite losing in the opening match, in their first world debut, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team still received compliments from fans for their fiery and determined play. Vi Thi Nhu Quynh is the most outstanding player in the squad.
The 2002-born hitter played in the starting lineup. When captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy retreated to the back row, Vi Thi Nhu Quynh played the role of the spearhead attacker. She continuously moved to the two edges, coordinated well with setter Lam Oanh and then jumped high to hit the ball.
In particular, the 23-year-old striker has proven his excellent tactical vision, intelligence, and proficiency in ball handling. In the last match, Nhu Quynh proved to be very effective in situations of pressing the ball with strong force or pushing the ball into the opponent's empty corner. Although the Polish team continuously built a 3-man defense, Nhu Quynh still attacked sharply, hitting the blocker to score points.
As a result, Nhu Quynh was the top scorer in Vietnam with 20 points (1 block, 1 serve), achieving an efficiency of 40%. Followed by Bich Thuy (9 points), Kieu Trinh (8 points), Thanh Thuy (6 points) and Nguyen Thi Uyen (4 points).
In the context of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team missing number 1 setter Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, Vi Thi Nhu Quynh's confidence and brilliance are great hopes in the squad of coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet.
The Vietnam women's volleyball team will have the second match in Group G of the 2025 World Championship against Germany at 5:00 p.m. on August 25.
