On April 26, Nguyen Huy Hoang and Mai Tran Tuan Anh entered the 5km open water swimming event at the 2026 Asian Beach Games held in China.
Right from the start, both players of the Vietnamese swimming team maintained stable speed to be in the leading group. In the final stage of the race, Huy Hoang rose to finish second, winning a silver medal with a time of 53 minutes 53.3 seconds.
Meanwhile, Mai Tran Tuan Anh won a bronze medal with a result of 53 minutes 56.3 seconds. The champion and gold medalist is athlete Zhang Ziyang (China) with a result of 53 seconds 46.
This is the 2nd time Nguyen Huy Hoang has participated in the Asian Beach Games. The athlete from Quang Tri competed at the 2016 Asian Beach Games held in Da Nang but did not win a medal. Now, Huy Hoang has a silver medal achievement at the 2026 Asian Beach Games.
At this Games, the Vietnamese swimming team registered to compete with 4 athletes: Vo Thi My Tien, Nguyen Kha Nhi, Mai Tran Tuan Anh and Nguyen Huy Hoang. We also participate in the 4x1 relay event. 500m mixed men's and women's event on April 27. This is an event that helped the Vietnamese swimming team win a gold medal at SEA Games 33 in Thailand last year.
