Thuy Linh, the 18th ranked player in the world, met Thamonwan Nithiittikrai of Thailand. Against an opponent behind her by 62 places in the world rankings, Thuy Linh showed her mettle at decisive moments.
In set 1, Thuy Linh started strongly when scoring a streak of 6 consecutive points to lead the opponent 7-1. With a fairly safe distance, excited psychology and enthusiastic cheers from home fans, Thuy Linh did not have much difficulty winning with a score of 21 10.
In set 2, the number 1 female tennis player of Vietnam took a 2-0 lead but then let the opponent score a 7-point goal, thereby falling 2-7 behind. Taking advantage of the large gap, Thamonwan Nithiittikrai played very confidently, to win 21-13, thereby leveling the score at 1-1.
In the decisive set 3, Thuy Linh took an early lead of 5-1, but Thamonwan stuck to the point fiercely. However, Thuy Linh played calmly, not letting the opponent equalize the points. On the contrary, the No. 1 female tennis player in Vietnam gradually widened the gap, to win 21-18.
In the end, Thuy Linh beat Thamonwan Nithiittikrai 2-1 (21-10, 13-21, 21-18) to qualify for the semi-finals. This is Thuy Linh's second win over Thamonwan Nithiittikrai, in the tournament system of the World Badminton Federation (BWF). Previously in 2022, Thuy Linh defeated Thamonwan in an international badminton tournament in Belgium.
In the semi-finals, Thuy Linh will meet tennis player Kim Min-ji (Korea), who is ranked 123rd in the world.
