The 2024 Asian Club Volleyball Championship will be held in Thailand from September 22 to September 29. Vietnam's representatives at the tournament are LPB Ninh Binh (the current national championship champion) and Duc Giang Chemicals (the current national championship runner-up).
According to the draw results, Group A includes Duc Giang Chemicals (Vietnam), Nakhonratchasima QminC VC (Thailand), Kuanysh VC (Kazakhstan), Kwai Tsing (Hong Kong, China). Meanwhile, Group B includes LPBank Ninh Binh (Vietnam), NEC Red Rockets (Japan), Saipa (Iran) and Monolith Skyrisers (Philippines).
Fans are waiting for the performance of the two Vietnamese teams, especially LPB Ninh Binh when coach Thai Thanh Tung's squad has a series of players as well as talented faces such as Bich Tuyen, Nguyen Thi Trinh, Le Thanh Thuy, Dinh Thi Thuy...
According to journalist Nguyen Luu, LPB Ninh Binh's group is easier than group A.
"NEC Red Rockets are the current champions of Japan's top volleyball league. In my opinion, they are the most worrying team in this group.
The NEC Red Rockets squad once had Japanese national team captain Sarina Koga. However, this main striker announced her retirement from professional volleyball in July this year.
However, the Japanese representative still has notable faces such as Ajcharaporn Kongyot (Thailand), Yukiko Wada (Japan). If Ajcharaporn is no longer a stranger to Vietnamese women's volleyball when she just competed in SEA V.League 2024, Wada is one of the strongest passers in Asia. She has good attacking power and is the key scorer of the home team, promising to be a "formidable opponent" of Bich Tuyen.
As for Saipa (Iran), this is only a Class A team in this country. Iran is only strong in men's volleyball, but in women's volleyball, their strength and playing style are not worrisome. Meanwhile, Monolith Skyrisers (Philippines) is a university team, without any famous names, so it is not worrisome," journalist Nguyen Luu assessed.
Journalist Nguyen Luu said that with the current strength of the opponents, LPB Ninh Binh has many opportunities to pass the group stage of the tournament.
At the 2024 Asian Club Championship, coach Thai Thanh Tung brought a familiar squad that had just competed in the first round of the national championship with key players such as Bich Tuyen, Le Thanh Thuy, Nguyen Thi Trinh, Dinh Thi Thuy or Luu Thi Hue...
"LPB Ninh Binh's playing style will still revolve around Bich Tuyen and 2 middle blockers Le Thanh Thuy and Nguyen Thi Trinh. Besides, main striker Dinh Thi Thuy is also ready to surprise with wrist turns, flexibly switching from number 4 to number 1.
However, they need to pay attention and improve their setter and libero. To compare LPB Ninh Binh and NEC Red Rockets, the team with a better setter will have more opportunities. Because when the setter is good, attackers like Bich Tuyen or Wada can fully demonstrate their strength," said journalist Nguyen Luu.
According to the schedule, LPB Ninh Binh will face NEC Rockets Kawasaki in the opening match, taking place at 4:00 p.m. on September 22.
