The 2026 Asian Taekwondo Championship is held in Mongolia with events for performance and sparring.
The organizers of the tournament will compete in performance content from May 19 to May 20 local time. After that, the content for sparring will take place from May 21 to May 24.
The Vietnamese taekwondo sparring squad participating in the 2026 Asian Championship has 15 best faces. Among them, 3 SEA Games 33 champions, Nguyen Hong Trong, Bac Thi Khiem, and Tran Thi Anh Tuyet, are in the squad.
At SEA Games 33, Hong Trong won a gold medal in the men's 54kg event while Bac Thi Khiem won the 73kg event, and Tran Thi Anh Tuyet won the women's 57kg event. Notably, martial artist Tran Thi Anh Tuyet decided to return to the Vietnamese taekwondo team to practice and compete even though she had announced her retirement from the team after SEA Games 33.
According to the coaching staff of the Vietnamese Taekwondo Team, the 2026 Asian Championships will organize 8 women's weight classes (46kg, 49kg, 53kg, 57kg, 62kg, 67kg, 73kg, over 73kg) and 8 men's weight classes (54kg, 58kg, 63kg, 68kg, 74kg, 80kg, 87kg, over 87kg).
The Asian Championship is held every 2 years. In 2024, the tournament took place in Da Nang city. In the above tournament, martial artist Bac Thi Khiem won 1 gold medal in the sparring events that the Vietnamese taekwondo team participated in.
