Pickleball is no longer strange in Vietnam
The Steering Committee for the establishment of the Vietnam Pickleball Federation has been recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. 14 members of the Mobilization Committee to establish the Pickleball Federation have started working towards officially launching the Vietnam Pickleball Federation in the coming time. Through research, the first Congress of the Vietnam Pickleball Federation is expected to be held at the end of 2025.
At this time, pickleball is no longer a strange sport. The Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports officially includes this sport in the high-performance competition program, with a national system from 2024. Pickleball is a sport that attracts the attention of society. Therefore, the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports will play a role in developing regulations on expertise and development orientation. If the Vietnam Pickleball Federation is established, the social organization has the authority to develop this sport according to the needs of society and ensure the need to find social resources for investment.
The current development of pickleball in Vietnam is parallel in terms of professional achievements and mass playgrounds. However, the number of pickleball tournaments in the national system is not much. The grassroots playground takes place in many forms. Many international units and organizations have participated with each locality and unit organizing international pickleball tournaments in Vietnam. To ensure good management and close supervision of tournaments, the Vietnam Pickleball Federation (if established) is an important unit. This social organization supervises the legal requirements of international tournaments in Vietnam.
45th sports federation and association
Up to now, Vietnamese sports have 44 National Sports Federations and Associations operating in the field of physical education and sports. Of which, two important organizations are the Vietnam Olympic Committee and the Vietnam Paralympic Committee. The remaining 42 socio-professional sports organizations are strictly managed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Department of Physical Education and Sports of Vietnam.
All federations and associations operate according to the model of self-management, autonomy and self-responsibility for organization, finance, assets and personnel, and must comply with the provisions of law. Those who attend the Federation and Association are elected voluntarily and are elected according to the regulations. If the Vietnam Pickleball Federation is born, this will be the 45th National Sports Federation and Association.
At the end of last year, during a meeting with representatives of national sports federations and associations, representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism gave many practical opinions. In particular, the requirement for social organizations to operate effectively from management to financial assurance and professional development, movement, and tournament organization is very large. In fact, not many Sports Federations and Associations do this well. Many Sports Federations and Associations still rely on state resources because they cannot promote the ability to develop the sports economy.
Currently, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is drafting a Circular to replace Circular 01/2021/TT-BVHTTDL stipulating a number of measures to perform the function of State management of physical education and sports activities for the National Sports Association.
In particular, one of the contents presented in the draft is When developing State management regulations related to the National Sports Association, strategies, plans and policies for the development of physical education and sports, the Department of Physical Education and Sports of Vietnam is responsible for collecting opinions from national sports associations. The National Sports Association proactively proposes to the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports and competent State management agencies on policies and activities associated with the state's tasks to develop the National Sports Association, sports under the management of the National Sports Association...".
