Iran, Iraq and Turkey promote consultations, coordination and diplomatic efforts to prevent tensions in West Asia from continuing to escalate and spread.

According to Xinhua news agency, Iran, Iraq and Turkey emphasized the need to prevent tensions in West Asia from continuing to escalate, as countries strengthen consultations on new developments in the region.

This issue was raised in phone calls between Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his Iraqi and Turkish counterparts on September 12 (local time). The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced information about the above exchanges on the morning of September 13.

In a phone call between the Iranian Foreign Minister and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, the two sides discussed the latest developments in the region, and emphasized the need to prevent tensions from continuing to escalate as well as limit the risk of conflict spreading.

The two foreign ministers also agreed to maintain consultations and strengthen diplomatic efforts to contribute to ensuring stability and peace in the region.

Mr. Araghchi and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein also had a private phone call to review bilateral issues, regional developments and ongoing processes.

The two sides especially emphasized the importance of maintaining stability and security along the common border line, and continue to coordinate on related issues.

According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the two foreign ministers also emphasized a responsible approach to the developments taking place in West Asia, and called for increased efforts to prevent escalation of tensions and widespread conflict in the region.

The phone calls took place in the context of the West Asian situation continuing to attract the attention of countries in the region, as the risk of current tensions spreading to many countries is raising the requirement to strengthen diplomatic coordination.

Iran's successive exchanges with two neighboring countries show that regional consultations and coordination on border security continue to be contents that Tehran focuses on in its efforts to maintain stability.

In the exchanges, Iran, Iraq and Turkey jointly emphasized the need for restraint, promoting dialogue and using diplomatic measures to limit the risk of further expansion of conflict.
