The 2026 National Marathon Championship of Tien Phong Newspaper will be held on March 29 in Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa).
According to the announcement of the Vietnam Sports Administration, the achievements of athletes competing in the men's marathon – 42km and women's marathon – 42km events for the professional system organized at the 2026 National Marathon Championship of Tien Phong Newspaper are counted as achievements in the medal program of the X-2026 National Sports Games.
General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation - Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung said that the marathon track schedule - 42km men's and women's events has been announced to units and athletes.
The distance competition route does not have steep slopes and athletes can run on beautiful roads. We are very hopeful that a new national record will be set in this event," Mr. Hung expressed.
The national record for the women's marathon – 42km event is currently 2 hours 39 minutes 49 seconds of athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh. This athlete will participate in the tournament in Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa) this year. However, Nguyen Thi Oanh focuses on the professional women's 5km event, not participating in the women's marathon – 42km event.
The absence of Nguyen Thi Oanh in the above event helps the runners preparing to compete in the marathon – 42km women have the opportunity to set a new national record.
In Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa), 9 female athletes registered to compete in the professional women's marathon - 42km event.
In February 2026, Pham Thi Hong Le competed in the All Star Marathon (Marathon All Star) 2026 and achieved a time of 2 hours 38 minutes 07 seconds in the women's marathon – 42km distance. However, the achievement is not enough to be identified as a new national record.
Pham Thi Hong Le was registered by Gia Lai athletics team to compete in the women's marathon – 42km at the 2026 National Marathon Championship of Tien Phong Newspaper. She is facing the opportunity to surpass the national record that Nguyen Thi Oanh is holding.
