Ho Thi Duy's victory in the light weight women's singles event not only contributed to the overall achievement of the team but also marked a memorable milestone in the competitive career of the athlete born in 2006.
Ho Thi Duy was discovered by local coaches when she was in 6th grade and was soon selected to join the boat racing team. After that, she was taken to the Can Tho National Sports Training Center for training.
However, in the early years, the limited training conditions made Duy mainly practice physical exercise for a long time, and have little opportunity to go into the water. When preparing to switch to intensive training, the COVID-19 epidemic broke out, causing the time to get used to the water surface to be even narrower.
Overcoming difficulties, Ho Thi Duy was given the opportunity to go to Hai Phong to train at Thuy Nguyen Boat Racing Center. Here, she entered a period of intense training, regularly exercising from early morning to noon in hot weather conditions.
Starting to compete at the age of 16, Ho Thi Duy quickly made her mark with 2 silver medals and 1 gold medal at the 2022 Asian Youth Championship.
Sharing after the latest gold medal, the young rower said she wanted to continue to make more efforts and contributions to Vietnamese rowing in the journey ahead.
