From 2022 to present, Chinese men's table tennis players have never lost in the finals of the tournament under the WTT Grand Smash system. However, on the evening of August 24 in Sweden, they lost the men's singles final for the first time.
Swedish host Truls Moregardh defeated Lin Shidong (China) with a score of 4-3 (11-8, 8-11, 12-10, 11-8, 4-11, 11-13, 11-9) to win the men's singles championship. Truls Moregardh is the first European player and also the first player outside of China to win the men's singles championship of this tournament. The Swedish player is currently ranked 7th in the world while Lin Shidong is currently the world's number 1 player.
This is the second surprise at the 2025 WTT Grand Smash in Sweden.
The previous surprise was the 2-3 loss of tennis player Lin Shidong/Huang Youzheng (China) to Wong Chun Ting/ Chan Baldwin (Hong Kong (China)) in the men's doubles final, so they received a silver medal.
In the remaining three finals, Chinese athletes won the championship with the achievements of Sun Yingsha (women's singles), Sun Yingsha/Wang Manyu (women's doubles), Lin Shidong/Kuai Man (men's and women's doubles).
The WTT Grand Smash table tennis tournament belongs to the competition system of the World Table Tennis Federation, considered a Grand Slam tournament. Supposing to be held since 2022. WTT Grand Smash tournaments are held in Singapore, China, Saudi Arabia, the US and Europe. This year, Sweden hosted the tournament in Europe for the first time and awarded a prize fund of more than 1.5 million USD.
Players who have won men's singles in the tournament's tournaments are Fan Zhendong, Wang Chuqin, Lin Shidong.
