host Thailand has the advantage
"We always understand that Thai boxing has strengths in many weight categories. They have a good athlete force and a tradition in expertise. When Thai boxers compete at home, the spiritual cheers from the audience are always great. With good professional skills, Thai boxers will have a professional advantage at this year's SEA Games, said Mr. Vu Duc Thinh, former head of boxing (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports).
The 2007 SEA Games was the last Southeast Asian Games hosted by Thailand (before the 33rd SEA Games). At that time, boxing had 17 weight classes competing. The Thai boxer has reached 17 finals and lost only 1 match.
During the 32nd SEA Games held in 2023 in Cambodia, boxing competed in 16 weight categories and the Thai boxing team had players in 11 finals. At the end of the 32nd SEA Games, Thai boxers achieved a total of 9 Gold Medals, 2 Silver Medals and 1 Bronze Medal.
Such figures show that Thai boxing is always superior to Vietnamese boxing, Philippines, Indonesia or Cambodia... in the SEA Games arena. For the 33rd SEA Games, host Thailand will compete in 17 official weight categories (9 men's events, 8 women's events).
Through research, it is almost certain that boxing does not limit registration for competition, so the Thai boxing team plans to have players participating in all weight categories.
Vietnamese Boxing believes in Ha Thi Linh
The Vietnamese boxing team has the most professional training at this time. We have identified the goal of achieving results at the 33rd SEA Games as the focus, so training preparations for important athletes have begun since the beginning of the year.
At the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, we won 2 Gold Medals, 1 Silver Medal, 3 Bronze Medals. The goal of the Vietnam boxing Team for the 33rd SEA Games is to achieve at least 1 Gold Medal. Athlete Ha Thi Linh won the Gold Medal for the Vietnamese boxing team at the 32nd SEA Games.
Currently, Ha Thi Linh is one of the main faces of the Vietnam women's boxing team. Ha Thi Linh is best prepared in all conditions and we still expect her to achieve the result of maintaining her achievements when she comes to Thailand to compete at the end of this year, coach Nguyen Nhu Cuong once discussed.
2024 is a successful year and has a personal mark for Ha Thi Linh. She officially competed at the 2024 Paris Olympics (France). Along with that, she won a Silver Medal at the 2024 Asian boxing Championship. In March this year, this female player won the Bronze Medal at the 2025 World Boxing Championship.
From many professional achievements that have been achieved, it is easy to understand why coach Nguyen Nhu Cuong and the coaching staff affirmed Ha Thi Linh as the number 1 boxer in the women's 63kg category of Vietnam.
She once expressed: "I have won a Gold Medal at the 32nd SEA Games. That result gave me a very happy feeling. For me, I always want to achieve the best results to bring glory to the Fatherland. I really hope I will do well the assigned tasks when participating in the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand even though everyone knows that countries are currently preparing very carefully.
After the 2025 World Boxing Championship, the Vietnam Boxing Team continues to send athletes to participate in international tournaments to accumulate more expertise. Currently, Vietnamese boxing has registered 19 promising fighters to compete in the 2025 U22 Asian boxing Championship held in Sri Lanka (closed on May 24.
According to the coaching staff of the Vietnam boxing Team, the 19-a-side squad participating in the Youth boxing Championship, the 2025 U22 Asian Championship has many athletes who have achieved stability and it is not excluded that they will be named to compete in Thailand at the 33rd SEA Games at the end of this year.
