On June 21, the 2025 Asian Muay Championship officially opened at the Thai Nguyen Provincial Sports Stadium (Thai Nguyen City), marking the first time a continental Muay Championship has been held in Vietnam.
The event brings together nearly 400 athletes, coaches, team leaders and referees from 25 countries and territories.
The competition events include 28 weight categories and 8 technical performance events. The Vietnamese delegation participated with 50 athletes, including 6 fighters from Thai Nguyen.
Attending the opening ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Permanent Vice Chairman of Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoc - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and a large number of fans.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee affirmed: "The tournament is an important opportunity to promote the image, culture and sportsmanship of Thai Nguyen to international friends. At the same time, this is also an opportunity to help domestic athletes accumulate more valuable experience.
Right after the ceremony, the first matches took place in a vibrant atmosphere, receiving cheers from a large number of fans.
The event is not only a top-notch sports playground but also contributes to spreading the spirit of training, raising awareness of healthy living in the community, especially among young people.
