Recently, the Hanoi Department of Construction has coordinated with the City Police and functional units to develop and deploy a lane division plan using a hard, key median strip on the two routes Vo Chi Cong and Pham Van Dong.
After completion, the routes with hard lanes are expected to create a clear traffic flow, increase traffic speed, and reduce the risk of collisions, especially during rush hour.
Limiting vehicles encroaching on lanes and recklessly overtaking will also gradually change people's behavior and awareness of participating in traffic, which experts say is no less important than infrastructure.
According to the design plan, the outer lanes, close to the median strip, will be lanes reserved for cars, the inner lanes will be mixed lanes.

On Vo Chi Cong Street, the lane division extends from the entrance to the elevated road, to the front of the water separation from Vo Chi Cong to Au Co Street.
The border between the car lane and the mixed lane will be separated by a hard median strip - a connecting steel fence, ensuring that vehicles do not arbitrarily change lanes.
At intersections and around-taking points, vehicles are allowed to change direction according to the instructions of the sign system.
Similarly, Pham Van Dong Street will have a hard median strip from Hoang Quoc Viet intersection to the entrance to Ciputra urban area.
In particular, an surveillance camera system will be installed on the bridge rack to record, monitor vehicles and punish violations, thereby improving the effectiveness of traffic law enforcement and deterring traffic participants.

According to records on the afternoon of June 21, many sections on Vo Chi Cong Street have been installed with median strips.
Traffic on Vo Chi Cong route, the intersection with Nguyen Hoang Ton street, is relatively stable.
With 3 lanes on the left for cars slightly congested from the CT13B building to the intersection with Nguyen Hoang Ton Street (about 300m), vehicles must take at least 2 red lights to get through the intersection.
As for the mixed lane, it is quite airy, making for convenient traffic.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy (Tay Ho District, Hanoi) said that during rush hour on Friday (September 20), the traffic congestion extended from the foot of Nhat Tan Bridge to the intersection of Vo Chi Cong - Nguyen Hoang Ton streets.
"It took me and many other drivers more than half an hour to get out of the traffic jam," said Mr. Huy.

Commenting on the cause, Mr. Huy said that it could be due to the installation of a median strip causing people to "confficut" during traffic.
"I have not seen the effectiveness of installing hard median strips. While the mixed lane is airy, the lane for cars is seriously congested, vehicles have to move with a lot of hay, which takes a lot of time" - Mr. Huy said.
Therefore, Mr. Huy suggested that the authorities have a plan to install appropriate median strips and traffic flow to avoid congestion on Vo Chi Cong Street like during the peak hours last Friday.
Currently, the Hanoi Department of Construction has not yet provided official information about the congestion on Vo Chi Cong Street during the installation of the median strip.
