The Importance of Strategy
Looking back to 2024, the sports industry has approved the Strategy for developing Vietnam's physical education and sports to 2030 with a vision to 2045 (October 15, 2024).
This is an important decision for the country's sports because sports people and related units, ministries and sectors have specific orientations on the goals of developing the country's sports.
“Build a sustainable and professional sports and physical education foundation. All people have access to and enjoy sports and physical education services; voluntarily practice to improve health, fitness and quality of life.
“Improving the achievements of Vietnamese sports, gradually approaching and advancing to the level of countries with developed sports in Asia. Expanding the sports market, mobilizing and effectively using resources in developing the sports career”, this is the general goal specifically stated in the Strategy for the Development of Vietnamese Sports to 2030 with a vision to 2045.
Director of the Department of Physical Training and Sports Dang Ha Viet once discussed at the Conference to summarize the work of 2024 and deploy tasks for 2025 of the sports industry (December 2024) that when the Strategy for the development of physical training and sports in Vietnam to 2030 with a vision to 2045 was approved and issued, sports people had many tasks to implement and the above requirement was to achieve efficiency to raise the image of the country's sports.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a conference to deploy work on the Strategy for developing Vietnam's physical education and sports to 2030 with a vision to 2045, recording many expert opinions.
The Ministry's leaders believe that the successful implementation of each content is the core issue for the Strategy to be effective. According to the sports industry, starting from 2025, a number of plans in the program to implement the Strategy for the development of physical education and sports in Vietnam to 2030 with a vision to 2045 will be implemented.
Find depth to elevate and grow
In 2023, Vietnamese sports participated in the 19th ASIAD in Hangzhou (China) and we ranked 21st out of 43 participating Asian countries and territories. At that time, Vietnamese athletes won a total of 3 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 19 bronze medals. Last year, in 2024, we participated in the Olympics in Paris (France). We had 16 athletes participating in the Olympic arena but did not win any medals.
“Sports are achievements and without achievements, it is very difficult to make any comparison to justify investment,” said sports expert Nguyen Hong Minh (former Director of the Department of High Performance Sports - Vietnam Sports and Physical Training Committee).
In the Strategy for the development of Vietnam's physical education and sports to 2030 with a vision to 2045, the specific achievement target is that the country's sports must maintain its position in the top 3 leading countries at the SEA Games (Southeast Asia) and the top 20 at the ASIAD (Asia) arena, as well as win 5 to 7 gold medals at the ASIAD, and have medals at the Olympics and Paralympics...
Important milestones are the compass for high-performance sports in Vietnam to aim for. However, sports achievements only come with long-term preparation and methodical implementation.
“We understand the difficulties and challenges facing the sports industry, but there are also many advantages in the context of implementing Conclusion 70-KL TW of the Politburo and the Strategy for the development of physical training and sports in Vietnam to 2030 with a vision to 2045.
Promoting the achievements, the sports industry will focus on implementing tasks and have key solutions to continue improving achievements in 2025...", Mr. Dang Ha Viet once shared.
In 2025, Vietnamese sports have identified it as a pivotal year to prepare for important future competitions such as the 20th Asian Games (in 2026, in Japan), the Los Angeles Olympics (in 2026, in the US). Certainly, we will not miss the opportunity to achieve success at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand.
The manager determined that athletes with the potential to achieve professional results at the SEA Games would be an effective test and would then become key people for Vietnamese sports to invest appropriately.
