On the evening of August 11, coach Phan Thanh Hung passed away at his home in Da Nang, at the age of 66. The passing of one of the experienced coaches of Vietnamese football received many condolences from organizations, clubs, players and colleagues.
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) expressed regret at the passing of Mr. Phan Thanh Hung. VFF said that he used to hold the role of Member of the National Football Coaching Council, head coach of the national team and U23 Vietnam.
In his career, coach Phan Thanh Hung has held many positions, from player, club coach to leading national teams. He was an assistant in the Vietnamese national team that won the 2008 AFF Cup and then took on the position of head coach of the national team, U23 Vietnam in 2012.
A major milestone in his career is associated with Hanoi FC, formerly Hanoi T&T. Under the guidance of coach Phan Thanh Hung, the Capital team won the V.League championship in 2010 and 2013, and the 2010 National Super Cup.
Hanoi FC sent condolences, and at the same time assessed coach Phan Thanh Hung as a talented, dedicated coach who has made many contributions to the team's first successes.
Da Nang Club - the hometown team that coach Phan Thanh Hung once led twice also expressed regret. The Han River team emphasized that his contributions and love for Da Nang football will always be appreciated.
The departure of coach Phan Thanh Hung also shocked many generations of players who used to work with him.
Striker Van Quyet shared his farewell message: "Goodbye teacher. Thank you teacher for everything!". Hai Long wrote: "Goodbye Coach. I thank you Coach for everything". Meanwhile, Duy Manh expressed: "Goodbye Coach. I am very grateful to Coach.
Former player Nguyen Ngoc Duy wrote: "Goodbye teacher! Respectable teacher! Thank you for what you have done and left behind". Goalkeeper Tan Truong also sent a farewell message: "Wishing you peace. A respectable teacher".
Coach Phan Thanh Hung is remembered not only for his professional marks but also for his composure, closeness and behavior towards the players. His contributions to Vietnamese football over the years will continue to be remembered.
