The U21 Vietnam women's volleyball team ended the group stage of the 2025 U21 World Cup with the second place in Group A. Coach Nguyen Trong Linh and his team won 4 victories against U21 Indonesia (3-0), U21 Serbia (3-0), U21 Canada (3-1), U21 Puerto Rico (3-1) and only suffered 1 defeat against U21 Argentina (1-3).
With this result, U21 Vietnam won a ticket to the round of 16 and will face the 3rd place team in Group C, U21 Turkey. This team just defeated U23 Italy with a score of 3-2, but before that lost to U21 Poland 0-3 and the Czech Republic 2-3.
This is considered a huge challenge for Quynh Huong and her teammates as U21 Turkey is highly appreciated. 2 years ago, the European representative ranked 5th overall at the 2023 World Championship. Not to mention, this generation of players also has many members in the Turkey U20 squad that will win the 2024 European Championship.
The concern for U21 Vietnam is the fact that two pillars Dang Thi Hong and Nguyen Phuong Quynh were unexpectedly absent from the match against U21 Puerto Rico in the final match of the group stage.
Regarding this issue, the General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation - Mr. Le Tri Truong - said: "The organizing committee wishes to check the registration documents of athletes Dang Thi Hong and Phuong Quynh. We have complied with regulations and sent the athletes' documents according to certificates from Vietnam to Indonesia.
However, it must be affirmed that both have registered to compete and play at the 2024 U20 Asian Youth Women's Volleyball Championship. Next, the players will compete in the first matches of the 2025 U21 Women's Volleyball World Cup.
If the organizing committee wants to check the records of the athletes, it must do so and request it right at the technical meeting before the tournament. Players who are playing but have not been able to play will affect their professional quality".
The Vietnam Volleyball Federation has sent a document to the technical expertise department of the World Volleyball Federation (FIVB) requesting specific work, not affecting the competitive expertise of the athletes.
