The core group is still the Thai Son Nam HCMC athletes (8 people), along with players from the Thong Nhat Sports Training and Competition Center, Vietnam Coal and Minerals and the Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center.

According to coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang, the team has gone through a period of careful preparation through training trips, competing in 4 friendly matches to perfect the playing style and strengthen the cohesion. He assessed that the group will have many challenges when Indonesia progresses rapidly and Myanmar changes significantly in playing style and personnel. The team's immediate goal is to pass the group stage before calculating for a higher goal at the 33rd SEA Games.
