On the afternoon of April 25, the Taiwan (China) Football Association (CTFA) officially dismissed the head coach of the women's national team Prasobchoke Chokemor, and disbanded the entire coaching staff in the comprehensive restructuring plan.
The decision was made after more than a week of investigation and evaluation, in the context of the team falling into a serious internal crisis. Previously, 18 players simultaneously signed petitions requesting the dismissal of the Thai coach, even though the team just reached the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women's Asian Cup - the best achievement in the last 9 tournaments.
According to local media, Technical Director Matt Ross has nominated Belgian coach Patrick De Wilde for the replacement position. He is highly appreciated for his experience working in many national teams and clubs in Europe, Africa and Asia. The final decision will be approved in the upcoming meeting.
In terms of expertise, the Taiwan (China) women's team attracted attention when they defeated the Vietnamese and Indian women's teams, before stopping before the Chinese women's team. In the women's World Cup play-off round, the team could not overcome the North Korean women's team but still had a chance to participate in the final round through a continental play-off spot in February 2027.
Despite achieving positive results on the field, many players believe that the lesson plan lacks system, the tactics are unclear, causing difficulties for the team in operating the playing style. In addition, fitness and medical work are also questioned when injuries related to training intensity appear.
Internal pressure forced the federation to act. Previously, the reform plan with 9 contents had been agreed upon, including replacing the head coach and rebuilding the coaching staff, but the implementation process encountered obstacles due to a lack of valid members for voting.
The dismissal of coach Prasobchoke Chokemor and his team is considered the opening step for the rebuilding process of the Taiwanese (China) women's national team in the near future.
