Coach Masatada Ishii confirmed that the Thai team will not have the presence of some key players in the 2024 AFF Cup campaign. The squad participating in the tournament will mainly be selected from the list gathered in November.
The Thai team has gathered with 23 players to prepare for two friendly matches at home against Lebanon and Laos on November 14 and 17. This can be considered the last test before the Thai team enters the campaign to defend the championship at the AFF Cup 2024.
"Most of the players on this list will be present at the AFF Cup 2024. The player selection process was affected by the fact that some Thai League teams will continue to compete in December," said Thailand coach Masatada Ishii.
Since the AFF Cup 2024 does not fall under the FIFA Days, key players such as Theerathon Bunmathan and Chanathip Songkrasin will not be able to participate. Other names such as Sarach Yooyen, Supachok Sarachat, Teerasil Dangda and Supachai Chaided will also be absent.
Thailand's November call-up includes seven players who are making their debut, along with a number of U22 players. Some experienced players such as Pansa Hemviboon, Elias Dolah, Suphan Thongsong, Nicholas Mickelson, Peeradon Chamratsamee, Ekanit Panya, Worachit and Suphanat Mueanta have also been called up.
"Players like Supanat Mueanta, Supachai Sarachat, Ekanit Panya and Sarach Yooyen have no club duties during the 2024 ASEAN Cup so I can call them up," coach Ishii added.
Thailand is in Group A at the AFF Cup 2024. Coach Ishii's students will meet Timor Leste (December 8), Malaysia (December 14), Singapore (December 17) and Cambodia (December 20).
