The Organizing Committee of the 33rd SEA Games (Thailand) has just adjusted the competition structure for men's football after Cambodia announced its withdrawal from 8 sports, including men's football.
The decision was made in the context that many contents of the congress had to be moved from Songkhla to Bangkok and Chon buri due to the impact of severe floods in southern Thailand.
According to updated information until the afternoon of November 27, the Singapore U22 team will be promoted from Group C to Group A to replace Cambodia U22 team. The organizing committee will soon announce the adjusted competition schedule after completing the arrangement plans.
Along with the change in Group A, the competition location of Group B was also updated. Instead of playing at Thammasat Stadium, the group with the participation of U22 Vietnam, Laos and Malaysia will move to Rajamangala Stadium. There will be two matches per day.
Previously, Cambodia said that withdrawing from some competitions was due to concerns about security issues and difficulties in ensuring safety for athletes and officials when the competition venue suddenly changed.
However, Cambodia still participates in many other sports such as swimming, athletics, electronic sports, boxing, kickboxing, taekwondo, horse riding, water motorbikes or volleyball.
The 33rd SEA Games is scheduled to open on December 9 in Bangkok. With Cambodia withdrawing and Singapore being transferred, men's football will compete with 3 groups, each group has 3 teams. host Thailand is also working with relevant sports delegations to agree on a compensation plan for expenses for teams that have booked tickets and accommodation in Songkhla but have to change their plans due to objective conditions.
