The 33rd SEA Games Organizing Committee is considering adjusting the competition location of Group B for men's football after many areas in Songkhla province (Thailand) were heavily affected by prolonged heavy rain.
Recent assessments show that the infrastructure around Tinsulanon Stadium, which is expected to host Group B matches, is under great pressure due to deep flooding and disrupted traffic.
According to Thai authorities, unusually high rainfall over the past several days has caused many roads and residential areas to be submerged in water.
Some areas leading to Tinsulanon Stadium cannot ensure safety for transportation, equipment installation as well as audience service. This has caused the Organizing Committee to consider the option of moving the match schedule to the capital Bangkok.
If this scenario occurs, Group B will have to change the competition venue for the second time after the original plan in Chiang Mai was adjusted last month.
The relocation of the location just over a week before the opening match of U22 Vietnam vs U22 Laos will create many disruptions in terms of logistics and the team's adaptability.
U22 Vietnam is currently maintaining the preparation process in Ba Ria ward (HCMC). According to the plan, the team will leave for Thailand on December 1.
Despite the possibility of continuous changes in the competition venue, the coaching staff still maintains the view of preparing proactively, ensuring readiness for the 33rd SEA Games campaign.
The SEA Games Organizing Committee is expected to make a final decision after completing the assessment of weather conditions and the ability to operate infrastructure in Songkhla in the coming days.
