Applying AI in practice to improve performance in shooting and archery

HOÀI VIỆT |

The 4 national sports teams for boxing, taekwondo, shooting, and archery will be the teams that will pilot the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Department of Physical Education and Sports of Vietnam to equip AI technology software to support professional training.

Appropriate investment for development

The Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports has reported to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism about the cooperation program using the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in a number of national sports teams.

At the latest meeting (June 3) with technology partner DreaMaX Company, the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports reported to the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism that the first 4 sports equipped with AI software and technology combined in professional training are boxing, taekwondo, shooting, archery.

Representative of the High Performance Sports Department (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports), Mr. Hoang Quoc Vinh expressed that the choice of the above 4 sports as a starting point for AI equipment is well-founded. Athletes in boxing, taekwondo, shooting, and archery who have participated in the SEA Games, ASIAD, Olympics, and international tournaments should have enough analytical database. At the same time, each sport has a specific nature that requires accuracy in each technical skill level such as the shooting range, the shooting line of athletes (archery, shooting) and the pitch, analysis of injury prevention and control ability, accuracy of hit force (boxing, taekwondo) ...

Technology goes hand in hand with professional training, specific indicators from analysis help athletes adjust the competition method.

Vietnam Sports is in need of building a database management warehouse for each coach and athlete in the national sports teams. The technology will analyze if there is input data.

In the next two months, technology experts will start recording athlete data (in the near future, 4 sports: boxing, taekwondo, archery, shooting) to operate AI to optimize professional coaching staff.

The important thing is security

4 national sports teams of boxing, taekwondo, shooting, and archery are in the process of professional training to participate in the 33rd SEA Games at the end of this year. Technology experts understand that data is the "lifeline" of AI technology. Therefore, security is a top priority because in sports, all indicators are exposed as loopholes for athletes to exploit in competition.

When the 4 national sports teams of boxing, taekwondo, shooting, and archery are equipped with technology, the manager will prove the effectiveness of the investment through the achievements of the 33rd SEA Games.

Sharing about the current professional training work, coach Tran Quoc Cuong (Vietnam Shooting Team) said that the performance index of athletes when practicing and competing is recorded in detail and kept scientifically. That result is to determine the ability after each training cycle to adjust for shooters.

If we can apply advanced technology, the coach will learn to operate and I am very confident that the technology will help us improve our expertise as much as possible for the athletes - coach Tran Quoc Cuong shared. The Vietnamese archery team did the same. We have a chance to compete for results at the ASIAD and maybe at the Olympics, but we all need a real analysis index. All will depend on the effectiveness of AI.

Head of the Archery Department (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports) - Mr. Phan Trong Quan said that the professional data of the national team athletes is stored through many tournaments at all levels and with additional analysis from modern technology, the coach will certainly make more accurate adjustments.
