The impact of pickleball
Ly Hoang Nam has affirmed that he will focus on developing his professional career in pickleball. A month ago, when launching the tennis brand named after him from his sportswear partner, he shared: I thought carefully and decided to temporarily stop playing professional tennis. I will practice and compete in pickleball, participate in domestic tournaments, and then prepare for pickleball tournaments in Asia and internationally.
Recently, Li Huang Nam has participated in many pickleball tournaments at many levels held in many localities in Vietnam. This tennis player even registered and competed in the 2025 National Pickleball Championship (March 2025) in Ba Ria-Vung Tau and won the Gold Medal in the men's doubles event.
At the 2025 National Team Tennis Championship, Ly Hoang Nam did not participate. Meanwhile, many players familiar with the domestic banh chung village attended and competed in the tournament at the stadium in Bac Ninh. Fans regretted not being able to see Ly Hoang Nam compete.
reality is reflecting that many professional tennis players (exemplary Ly Hoang Nam, Trinh Linh Giang) are paying more attention to pickleball more often. Experts point out many reasons why pickleball attracts many professional tennis players and is willing to switch to playing this sport such as high rewards, gentle playing style, fans and society's attention. Most importantly, the pickleball tournament is being held regularly.
Mr. Nguyen Kim Cuong, representative of the tennis department (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports), shared: Professional sports must accept change when the new sport attracts the attention of athletes. However, if we look at reality, tennis can still maintain the interest from amateur players to professional athletes if invested properly. But at present, this is facing many difficulties".
The most necessary is concentration
Ly Hoang Nam and Trinh Linh Giang are the two main players of the Men's Tennis Team participating in recent SEA Games. They have gradually disappeared from many tennis tournaments in recent times.
Li Hoang Nam personally once in the semi -finals of men in 4 consecutive SEA Games. The 29th SEA Games in 2017, this player won a bronze medal. At the SEA Games 30 in 2019, Ly Hoang Nam won the Gold Medal. At the 31st SEA Games in 2022 in Vietnam, Ly Hoang Nam continued to win the gold medal. Playing SEA Games 32 in 2023, Ly Hoang Nam had a silver medal.
Ly Hoang Nam's professional excellence has been affirmed. Therefore, before each SEA Games, the coaching staff of the Vietnam Tennis Team relies on the performance of this tennis player to predict the competition and report the performance targets.
The Vietnam Tennis Team for 2025 has not been established yet, and the question of whether Ly Hoang Nam will participate in the 33rd SEA Games or not is being left open. This tennis player is interested in pickleball, so it will be very difficult for him to focus all his time on tennis.
Mr. Nguyen Kim Cuong shared: We registered for all 7 events at the 33rd SEA Games, including men's and women's singles; men's, women's, mixed-women's doubles; men's and women's team. The Vietnam Tennis Team will look for the best force to participate. Ly Hoang Nam is always given the best conditions if he focuses on competing with the national team. Vietnamese tennis aims to achieve the best results at the 33rd SEA Games.
After the 2025 National Team Tennis Championship, experts almost understand that Vietnamese tennis will enter a new phase that does not depend too much on Ly Hoang Nam. Vietnamese tennis still has many players trying to compete professionally such as: Nguyen Dac Tien, Truong Vinh Hien, Vu Ha Minh Duc, Nguyen Van Phuong...
Last year, the Vietnam men's tennis team sent a young team including: Nguyen Van Phuong, Vu Ha Minh Duc, Pham La Hoang Anh, Truong Vinh Hien, Dinh Viet Tuan Minh to compete in the 2024 Asian-Pacific Group 3 Davis Cup and successfully stay in the league. This year, the above faces still have the opportunity to wear the Vietnam Tennis Team jersey.
