The 2026 Asian Taekwondo Championships have closed in Mongolia. The tournament was already a qualifying round to award official slots to participate in ASIAD 20 for the performance and sparring events.
Each sparring event will award 7 slots for 7 martial artists with the best results along with 2 special slots to participate in ASIAD 20.
The Vietnamese taekwondo team did not win a medal at the 2026 Asian Championships.
However, in the sparring events, the Vietnamese taekwondo team won 2 slots to participate in ASIAD 20 with the case of martial artist Nguyen Thi Loan in the women's 49kg weight class and Bac Thi Khiem in the women's 67kg weight class.
At ASIAD 19, Bac Thi Khiem won a bronze medal.
The Taekwondo Federation also considers special admission after the competition results of the 2026 Asian Championship. The coaching staff of the team hopes that we will have the opportunity to be awarded an additional 1 to 2 slots in the sparring event.
At the 2026 Asian Championships, the performing martial artist of Vietnamese taekwondo also won 2 official slots to participate in ASIAD 20.
ASIAD 20 is the first time taekwondo has conducted qualifying rounds to compete for official participation.
At ASIAD 20, the Organizing Committee will compete in 4 men's combat weight classes including 58kg, 68kg, 80kg, over 80kg and 4 women's combat weight classes including 49kg, 57kg, 67kg, over 67kg. The sport has 2 boxing performance events (men's individual, women's individual).
