In the Circular regulating the roadmap for applying the ratio of biofuel to traditional fuel in Vietnam, the Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed that from January 1, 2026, all gasoline that is processed, combined, and sold for use by motor vehicles using gasoline engines nationwide is E10 gasoline.
From January 1, 2021, all gasoline will be combined, mixed, and traded for use by motor vehicles using gasoline engines nationwide, such as E15 gasoline or biofuel with other mixing ratios prescribed by the Minister of Industry and Trade based on the development status of motor vehicles; socio-economic development conditions; conditions for production and import of biofuel, biofuel and ensuring energy security.
Within the period not yet regulated, organizations and individuals are encouraged to participate in the production, processing, mixing, trading and use of bio-dizensene (B5, B10).
The Ministry of Industry and Trade said that based on reports from localities and enterprises, the production, import, storage system of E100, E100 and mineral gasoline mixing, and biofuel distribution in Vietnam is currently fully sufficient and exceeding the demand for E5 gasoline.
The coordination and distribution of E10 gasoline nationwide can be implemented by businesses, however, there needs to be a specific roadmap to prepare facilities.
According to the Automobile Manufacturers' Associations (VAMA) and the Motorcycle Manufacturers' Associations (VAMM), most vehicles in Vietnam can now use E10 biofuel. The domestic E100 source can be provided to the maximum to meet about 40% of demand (in the case of using E10 gasoline), the remaining E100 can be imported from other countries, contributing to balancing trade with reasonable prices, competing with mineral gasoline.
Localities and businesses are ready to increase the use of biofuel in the coming time. Especially in the context of Vietnam increasing greenhouse gas emissions from means of transport as at present
According to the assessment of the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the results of the implementation of Decision No. 53/2021/QD-TTg, the coordination and distribution of E10 biofuel has not yet been implemented according to the roadmap since December 1, 2017. E5RON92 gasoline consumption is decreasing, currently there is only an average of about 20% of total gasoline consumption. Consumers are not fully aware of the significance of using biofuel and its positive and negative impacts on vehicles.
