Strongly promoting the production of sustainable consumer products
Speaking at the 2025 Sustainable Consumer Forum with the theme "Sustainable consumption towards a green era" organized by the National Competition Commission, the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion (Ministry of Industry and Trade) in coordination with the Voice of Vietnam Electronic Newspaper (Voi Viet Nam Radio) on January 2 in Hanoi, Mr. Trinh Anh Tuan - Chairman of the National Competition Commission said that consumer behavior is identified as one of the strongest driving forces to promote the transition to sustainable production, thereby creating a "green era".
Recognizing the importance of a sustainable production and consumption value chain, in recent years, the Vietnamese Government has prioritized the development and promulgation of a comprehensive legal framework and policies to encourage and facilitate sustainable production. This has contributed to diversifying the supply of green products in the market, creating a premise for people to practice sustainable consumption.

According to Mr. Tuan, in recent years, Vietnam has clearly demonstrated its commitment to sustainable development and green transformation, through Decision No. 889/QD-TTg dated June 24, 2020 National Action Program on Sustainable Production and Consumption to 2030; Decision No. 1658/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister dated October 1, 2021 on the National Strategy on Green Growth for the period 2021 - 2030, vision 2050.
Recently, Resolution 57-NQ/TW has a breakthrough orientation on science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation; Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW promotes international integration in the new situation; Resolution No. 66-NQ/TW focuses on innovation in law-making and enforcement; and Resolution No. 68-NQ/TW to enhance private economic development.
"Along with a series of synchronous policies, these Resolutions not only strengthen the belief in the remarkable development of green products in the distribution system, but also make green products a priority choice for Vietnamese consumers" - Mr. Trinh Anh Tuan emphasized.
According to Mr. Tuan, in addition to strongly promoting the production of sustainable consumer products, the completion of the legal corridor system and sanctions to protect consumer rights is identified as a key and indispensable factor, ensuring a fair, transparent market and sustainable development.
Enterprises are still hesitant
Although a series of policies have been implemented, according to Dr. Ta Dinh Thi - Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Science, Technology and Environment - green production is still posing many significant challenges for businesses. The initial investment cost is huge, along with a strict production process and high requirements for raw materials, making many units still hesitant.
"Many businesses only dare to experiment with green products on a small scale, even though this is an inevitable trend, especially when looking towards export markets. The most core issue at present is the application of advanced technology, green technology with suitable costs in production to create environmentally friendly products" - Dr. Ta Dinh Thi emphasized.

Dr. Ta Dinh Thi added that in recent years, Vietnam has participated extensively and strongly committed to the international community on environmental protection action programs. In particular, solving the problem of both moving towards a low-carbon economy and achieving outstanding development speed. This contributes to promoting the commitment at the 26th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) to reduce net emissions to "0" by 2050.
To realize these commitments, there needs to be the joint efforts of each individual, organization, and enterprise, along with the implementation roadmap from the Government and the entire political system - Dr. Ta Dinh Thi emphasized.
