World coffee prices
Today's first trading session of the week (May 5), London floor has a holiday (Bank Holiday - UK), while New York floor remains open and Arabica prices remain unchanged.
Arabica futures for July 2025 stood at 385.40 cents/lb.
The following terms also kept the same at the closing price of the previous session.
At the end of last week (2025 week 18), Arabica lost 14.45 cents/lb, while Robusta lost 124 USD/ton. Both set a higher peak of the week than last week, but strong sales at the end of the week sent the market down.
Assessment
The first trading session of the week (May 5) recorded mixed developments between the two futures exchanges. While Robusta coffee prices on the London exchange temporarily stopped trading due to the banking holiday in the UK, the New York exchange still opened with a sideways trend of Arabica coffee after a strong week of fluctuations.
Arabica prices remained almost unchanged compared to last weekend, reflecting the cautious sentiment of investors when the market has gone through a series of adjustment sessions. In the 18th week, both Arabica and Robusta recorded a decrease compared to the previous week, although there were times during the week when they reached new peaks.
Many factors are intertwined to affect the world coffee market. In the short term, supply concerns have temporarily eased as Brazil the largest coffee producing country is entering favorable weather, helping crops grow well. In addition, information about the upcoming Robusta crop in Brazil and Vietnam also contributes to strengthening the expectation of more abundant supply in the new crop year.
However, Arabica inventories increased sharply, while Robusta inventories remained at the lowest level in the past 4 months, reflecting the differentiation of supply and demand between the two types of coffee. The price gap between Arabica and Robusta continues to widen, remaining around 157 cents/pound - a high level in recent months.
In addition, concerns about the decline in consumer demand due to the impact of US tariff policies on some imported goods - including coffee - are also a factor closely monitored by traders.
In the current context, analysts believe that international coffee prices will continue to fluctuate within a narrow range until the market has more clear information about actual output in Brazil and Indonesia, as well as purchases from speculative funds this week.
